Frequently Asked Questions

What separates Detailing from Valeting?

Most people ask me what separates Detailing from Valeting. Its basically in the name – Detailing consists of numerous methods and stages right through from washing and degreasing the vehicle, paint preperation, paint correction, paint nourishment & finally applying the sealant(s) Detailing goes into the minutiae of each aspect of the vehicle and thus takes at least a day to complete. Valets mostly consist of a pressure & or sponge-wash, leather-down and a method of wax or polish, tyre & trim dressing & finished off with a hoover-out & cabin cleanse.

Valeting is mainly about freshening a cars appearance – cleaning rather than correcting. Whereas detailing is about reconditioning and "correcting" a vehicles paintwork, whereas a valeter may spend 1-3 hours on your car, a professional detailer will spend from a day too a week on your car providing you with a fresh base to care for, giving you maximum protection and finish, using the very finest products that combine looks with durability at its best, on some details I will even remove the wheels to clean the arches by hand and the inner wheel-dish.

You don't use sponges or leathers?!

You don't use sponges or leathers?! I do not use sponges, water blades, or chamoix leathers as these are the most likey cause of swirl-marks/spider webbing in laquer. Neither do I use a £wet-wool-mop£ orbital polisher utilised by bodyshops and some valeters as these can, in the wrong hands, cause detrimental damage to paint work.

What products do you use?

What products do you use? - I use varied carnauba-content waxes (carnauba wax is the finest grade of sealant) that range from 30% to 75% white carnauba. Various Acrylic sealants, polishes, cleansers & pre-cleansers, de-greaseing agents are used during a detail and im not tied to just one single brand unlike larger detailing companies. This is of slightly greater cost to myself but of significant benefit to you the client as I have many solutions to execute a detail, not just one. Brands I utilise include Swissvax (formerly Swissol), Zymöl, Meguiars, Zaino and other, lesser known but professional-standard manufacturers.
